A call for the reduction of child violation is being made from the Family Affairs Unit within the Ministry of National Mobilisation as activities continue to observe Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
Mrs. Lou- Anne Boyde, committee member within the Ministry of National Mobilisation, said that the reality is that crime cannot totally be eliminated, however they are playing their path in the reduction of child abuse.
Mrs. Boyde said that the ministry aims to educate Vincentians about the fact that children are this nation’s prized possession. She said that over the last two years there has been an increase in the reported cases of child abuse, with 45 cases in 2012 and a hike to 53 cases in 2013. She also stated that the Ministry is taking an educational outreach approach to clamp down on child sexual abuse in the nation.
