A draft policy statement which was developed from the Caribbean Forum on Gender Equality and the Post 2015 Agenda will be made available to the public next week.
Minister of National Mobilization, Frederick Stevenson headed this country’s delegation to the meeting which was held at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados on August 22nd and 23rd.
The delegation also included Director of the Gender Affairs Department, Polly Oliver, President of the National Council of Women, Anesta Rodney and Representative of the Commonwealth Women's Network, Nelcia Marshall-Robinson.
The two-day session, sponsored by United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women discussed issues including freedom from violence, accessing capabilities (which dealt with issues of youth, health, food Security and nutrition), economic empowerment and leadership.
Participants were drawn from Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
Regional and International organizations that attended and participated in the forum included: the OECS Secretariat, CEDAW, CariMAN, CAFRA, IGDS, CPDC, UNICEF, UNDP, US Embassy Eastern Caribbean, Canadian High Commission and Development Cooperation, EU Mission Eastern Caribbean and others.
