Minister

Hon. Orando Brewster

Representatives from several local and regional organsations met here over a two-day period to prepare for the 12th Session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Ministry of National Mobilisation, etc., hosted the preparatory meeting at the National Insurance Services conference room.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), brought together various stakeholders in the region to discuss issues relating to women in the digital economy and unpaid work in the Caribbean.

Co-ordinator of the Gender Affairs Division within the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Polly Oliver, said that the discussion was to inform the higher level meeting in the Dominican Republic.  She said that during the discussions much attention was focused on justifying unpaid work in the Caribbean.

The opening ceremony began with addresses from Minister of National Mobilisation, Hon. Frederick Stephenson; Director of ECLAC Sub Regional Headquarters, Dianne Quarles; and a representative from the Gender Affairs Division.

The theme of the Conference was: "Women's Empowerment, Gender Equality and Information and Communications Technologies".
