A week of activities leading up to International Women’s Day is being co-ordinated by the National Council of Women, (NCW).
International Woman’s Day is observed each year on March 8th, and the activities planned by the NCW run from March 1st to 8th.
This year the Council is focusing on creating an awareness of its role in the society, and the events are being held under the theme: Women in Action for the Development of our Nation.
According to the Treasurer of the NCW, Audrey Walters-Butler, the week began with a message from the President of the Council, published in the weekly newspapers.
Mrs. Walters-Butler said that it is hoped that the President’s message can also be read in churches on Saturday and Sunday, as well as in the schools on Monday.
