Housing & Land Development Corp. 

Background 

The Housing and Land Development Cooperation is managed by the General Manager, Mr. Kenyatta Alleyne. The Housing and Lands Development Corporation mandate is to assist the Government of Saint Vincent and Grenadines in providing affordable housing opportunities for Vincentian nation-wide while simultaneously embarking on the development endeavours designed, strategically to ensure its sustainability and validity as a statutory corporation. 

The HLDC have conducted an Informal Settlement project which is aimed at addressing the infrastructural requirements, Surveys and Land ownership issues of many economically disadvantaged persons. 

The Low Income Housing Programme which was introduced in 2003 has improved the living conditions of hundreds of Vincentian families. Over 500 houses have been constructed on ten sites throughout Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. 

During the course of this year emphasis is placed on the No-Income housing programme which addresses the shelter needs of persons whose monthly income level is not more than $700.00 and who are faced with difficulties in accessing credit to from financial institutions to construct or to renovate their homes. This programme is the first of its kind in the history of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and was made possible by a grant of $9. Million from the Government of the Republic of Venezuela. Hundreds of Vincentian families stand to benefit from the programme.
