Key stakeholders in the child care sector gathered on Monday 13th April at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown for the start of a one-week training program hosted by the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Social Development, The Family, Gender Affairs, Persons With Disabilities & Youth.
The training is being held to complement the Child Care and Adoption Act and the enhanced Juvenile Justice Reform System.
It aims to develop training materials for child care practitioners and to provide tools, best practices and policy procedures for all persons who play a role in child care and protection.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister of Social Development, Hon. Frederick Stephenson, spoke of legislative reform measures being implemented to protect the rights of the child.
The one-week training program is being facilitated by consultant, Mrs. Jacqueline Sealey-Burke, who has been engaged by the Government to train service providers at all child protection institutions.
Mrs. Sealey-Burke met with key stakeholders in the child care sector in March and is now executing the mandatory training for master trainers this week.
